MINISTER ANNOUNCES NEW QUOTA CATEGORY SCHEDULES

On the 25th April 2007 the Minister of Home Affairs announced at a media briefing the new quota category schedules as is required in terms of the Immigration Act number 13 of 2002.

This list is based upon the so-called “National Critical Skills List” which has ostensibly been drawn up by the Ministry of Home Affairs in consultation with counter parts in the Ministries of Trade and Industry, Labour and Education.

In terms of the Immigration Act and its Regulations this list must be published on the aforesaid consultative basis once a year. Ostensibly the list will therefore be valid for a period of one year from date of issue.

The various professional categories and skills are set out distinctly in the schedule and this includes not only the description of the professional category but also the requirement for the applicant to prove registration with a professional body (where applicable) and at least five years of relevant professional experience in that category.

You are referred to the requirements for the quota category of work permit which you can view by clicking here.

Should you wish to avail yourself of a free assessment of viability of an application in the quota work permit category then complete the assessment questionnaire on our website or click here to bring up the assessment questionnaire.

Alternatively you can e-mail our office with your specific queries.

It is important to note that a prospective employer of a quota permit qualifying applicant need not advertise the position in the national printed media.

Please also note that a quota category permit can be granted for an indefinite period.

Should you have any enquiries relating to any of the above then feel free to contact our office or e-mail us on enquiries@immigration.org.za.

Subscribers to our e-newsletter will automatically receive an update.
