SOUTH AFRICA AND MOZAMBIQUE SIGN A VISA WAIVER (EXEMPTION) AGREEMENT

April 2005

The respective Presidents of South Africa and Mozambique signed a visa waiver agreement at Pretoria, South Africa, on Friday the 15 April 2005 thereby ending several years of visa requirements between the two countries, both members of the South African Development Community (SADC).

In terms of the agreement which will come into effect on Monday the 18th April 2005, South African and Mozambican nationals will no longer have to apply for visas to visit one another’s countries. They will automatically be entitled to visits not exceeding 30 days, as a matter of course.

Also removed from the stage is the requirement to pay the visa fee which both countries had required previously.

Visa wavers/exemptions are based on bilateral agreement between countries and have been founded in reciprocity.

The conclusion of this agreement brings South Africa and Mozambique in line with the existing bilateral agreement between South Africa and other SADC neighbours.
