NEW MINISTER OF HOME AFFAIRS ANNOUNCES AMENDMENTS TO THE IMMIGRATION ACT 13 OF 2003 AND THAT AMENDMENTS TO THE REGULATIONS WILL FOLLOW
The new Minister of Home Affairs has
presented the amendments to the Immigration Act (as recommended and
approved by Cabinet last week) to Parliament via the Parliamentary
Portfolio Committee on Home Affairs.
The Draft Amendment Bill was also tabled before NEDLAC (the National
Economic Development and Labour Affairs Council) on Wednesday the
30th June 2004.
The time-table for the way forward is as follows:
Draft Bill submitted to Cabinet for recommendation – second last week of June 2004;
Submission to NEDLAC – 30th June 2004;
Submission into the Parliamentary process – last week of June;
Public participation and stakeholder input – during July 2004
Submission to Parliament for approval – end July and into August 2004;
Publication of new Regulations – end August 2004.
As soon as the Amendments come into the
public domain we will publish them on our website. If you are on our

Based on media reports there are to be some far reaching amendments
to the Act and the Minister has declared in a speech that the
Regulations too will be substantially amended. As information
becomes available it will be updated to our website.
